Frontex, the EU's border security agency has repeatedly come under fire, accused of supporting illegal pushbacks and using excessive force against migrants. The 2023 Adriana boat tragedy off the Greek coast prompted an investigation by EU ombudsman Emily O'Reilly who presented findings - and criticisms - in late February.
In June 2023, EU ombudsman Emily O'Reilly launched a probe into the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) over the Adriana boat tragedy in which more than 600 people lost their lives off the coast of Greece.
