Romania ranks second to last in the EU regarding percentage of GDP earmarked to R&D

In 2016 member states earmarked, on average, 2.03 percent of the (GDP) for research (R&D), with Latvia and Romania ranking second to last, allocating only 0.44 percent, 0.48 percent of the GDP, respectively, according to data published on Saturday by Eurostat
The two EU member states that earmarked more than 3 percent of the GDP were Sweden (3.25) and Austria (3.09 percent).
